The moon may or may not matter. The human hands absolutely do.

If you want something for your home — a bowl that fills a room and becomes part of your space — a medium (17–22 cm) is where most people land and rarely regret. If you're a sound therapist or want something that stops a room cold when struck, go large (23 cm+). When in doubt, go one size bigger than you think. You can always play a large bowl softly. You can't make a small bowl fill a hall.
