Thanka

Thanka art comprises traditional Tibetan-style scroll paintings — intricate depictions of deities, mandalas, and Buddhist teaching scenes, painted by hand in the Kathmandu Valley. A thanka is a devotional object as much as a decoration: historically carried by traveling monks as portable shrines. The pieces in this collection are painted by Nepali artists trained in the traditional iconography, with mineral pigments on cotton canvas, often finished with brocade borders. They pair naturally with a singing bowl practice, giving the eye a point of focus the way the bowl gives the ear one.
